One of the biggest challenges that a new webmaster faces is how to get more traffic to their website. There are an unlimited number of pay-sites that you can use to have them generate traffic for you. But why would you pay someone else your money if you can do the same thing yourself for free.

There are many effective ways to get people on your website. One of the most popular ways (though certainly not the most effective) to generate traffic is through social networking. The goal is to socialize with people on a non-business level and every once in a while drop your website URL into a post or something. This kind of strategy can generate some organic traffic. You can also post your links to your home page so people can click on them out of curiosity or genuine interest. The purpose of these measures is to get as many people viewing your products as you possibly can. Organic traffic can sometimes be the catalyst for Google or other search engines to lock onto your URL and put you on their list.

Organic traffic alone does not bring home the bacon, however. To understand how website traffic works you must first understand the engine that drives the train. Search engines are the key. They dictate who goes on the lists and who stays off. The way that search engines work is by utilizing keywords to find out what people are typing into the search engines. They target the most popular words and phrases and give them a high value. When you learn how to distinguish which words and phrases will work for whatever it is you are promoting or selling you will start to see your traffic numbers increase dramatically.

Go get it! You can accomplish anything you set your mind to do. Don’t stop when you hit a wall. Just take a short break, get your mind off of your challenge for 10-15 minutes, and then charge ahead and take on your challenge with new vigor and new ideas. Most of all you should have fun! This is much better than sitting in a cubicle for 8-10 hours a day working for someone else.
